Talbot Post 70 History
Talbot Post 70 is named in honor of the rich history of the county in which it sits and to honor all those who have served it.
Talbot Post 70 was chartered January 17, 1920, a little over a year after the end of WWI and just two months after The American Legion’s first National Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was the 70th Post to be chartered in the Department of Maryland.
Talbot County, Maryland contributed to the American Revolution in many ways, including through military service, material aid, and other support.
Local Revolutionary War Heroes:
Brigadier General Perry Benson who led a citizen army against a British attack in 1813.
John O’Bryan who enlisted in the Fourth Independent Company in 1776.
Tench Tilghman who was General George Washington’s Aide-de-camp.
Over the 100 plus years of existence, Talbot Post 70 has been at the forefront of The American Legion issues and programs. Talbot Post 70 has sponsored a Boy Scout Troop, aided veterans from the VA hospitals, held and sponsored children and youth programs to include: junior shooting, baseball and basketball teams, and hosted a Department Convention in 1927, just to highlight a few. Every year the post donates to the community and state with nearly $50,000.00 and hundreds of volunteer hours. Our officers have been very active not only at the Post level, but also county, district, department and the national level serving in various leadership positions and on committees as well.

In addition to memorial events throughout the community, the goal of every Veteran to it's last man is to keep MEMORIAL DAY sacred to the memory of our war dead of all of the wars of the country; and all graves are decorated on this National Holiday.
ARMISTICE DAY, now called VETERANS' DAY, originally marked the end of fighting in World War I. It is an important holiday on the calendar of Legionnaires everywhere and in the hearts of all Veterans.
